What body positivity should be about:

• Being against people hating, attacking, and shaming people for being overweight or underweight.
• Fighting discrimination against overweight people such as overweight people being fired for just being fat, people being denied healthcare because of being fat, and fat people being given a harsher prison sentence.
• Fighting unnecessary judgement against people based on their looks, such as people being fired for being “too ugly” or “too pretty”, or holding women to high standers of appearance even where it doesn’t apply.
• Encouraging accommodation for overweight people such as wide airplane seats.
• Encouraging more diverse sizes in clothing models and fashions designed for wider body sizes rather than just one designed for smaller sizes and just expanded.
• Being against the idea that being overweight or any certain kind of body type says something about your character or who you are as a person.  Such as being fat equating a person to being a giant fluffly cute baby who eats mountains of donuts and candy a day or a lazy asshole.
• Fighting unrealistic, unobtainable, and unhealthy standards of beauty that are perpetuated by photoshopped models  the media, misogynists, and “Hollywood culture” that deems anyone above a size 4 to be “fat and ugly”.

What body positivity should not be about:

• Denying the scientifically supported links between excess body fat and health problems.
• Encouraging others to not loose weight if they are obese or encouraging others to be obese.
• Glamorizing obesity in the same way being underweight is already glamorized.
• Shaming people for not finding certain body types attractive.
• Shaming people for being underweight or thin.
• Attacking people for wanting to loose weight.
• Assuming people only loose weight because they buy into “popular notions of beauty”.
• Equating dieting with starving and anorexia or risky surgeries like liposuction and gastric bypass.
• Denying that there is an obesity epidemic in many countries in the developed world especially the U.S and Australia. 
• Denying that mood-related excessive eating occurs.
• Assuming eating disorders = anorexia and not acknowledging binge-eating disorder.
• Telling others that excessive eating of unhealthy foods is not harmful to overall health and that indulging in an entire tub of ice cream more than sparingly is okay and totally won’t cause widespread inflammation in your body.
• Telling anyone who is legitimately concerned about your health due to being overweight or obese such as your doctor, lover, close friend, children or parents to “fuck off” and accuse them of body shaming.
• Telling someone who says they have a weight problem and is struggling to loose weight to stop because they should ”love their body” .
• Lumping all body types above super-skinny into one category labeled ”fat” and people are either “fat” or “not fat”.
• Distorting history(especially art history)  or values of other cultures to fit a view that “attractive thin people” is a modern invention of White people.

Viruses CANNOT be spread through the HTML coding used to make Tumblr’s user layouts. You can’t get a virus from a tumblr page. I checked this poor user’s blog and they’re on the verge of LEAVING because of this false post.

don’t use “waaah school never taught me” as an excuse for not knowing basic life skills

I was going to reblog this and just rip you a new one, but I’ve had some time to cool down and sort out my thoughts.

Not everyone is a visual learner. Some are auditory, and others (like myself) are kinesthetic learners. When we don’t have someone around to teach us these life skills, either because our parents don’t care or don’t have time, then we do not learn certain things. High school should teach us these life skills.

This post was incredibly ignorant and just kind of set me off, sorry.

Long ago people counted on parents to teach kids about sex ed stuff, but that didn’t work and then sex ed was introduced to schools, even though it could be vastly improved it has done a lot of good anyway and reduced the number of teen pregnancies and STDs because sex and puberty are things that parents are often uncomfortable talking to their kids about and sometimes parents and friends tell the kids things that are wrong like “you can’t get pregnant the first time” and even now there are still things passed around that are wrong such equating virginity with hymen condition.

You can’t always rely on parents and friends to teach every important thing to kids.  Sometimes parents aren’t there, especially in families where both parents work.  Sometimes the parents themselves are ignorant, distant, or don’t know these skills themselves especially when it comes to social skills.  Sometimes parents are mentally 20, 30, even 50 years in the past or were raised in a very different culture with very different social skills or expectations.

And then sometimes you also have kids who are not very receptive to their parents or parent’s style of teaching.  

Also don’t forget that babies don’t come with manuals.

When Pixar’s Brave arrived in theaters in June, two directors shared full credit for the film: Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman. The project had originated with Chapman — who’d previously directed DreamWorks Animation’sThe Prince of Egypt — but at the beginning of 2011, the studio took the reins from her completely and handed them to Andrews, who’d worked on The Incredibles and Ratatouille.

It was a surprising development to say the least, given that Chapman had been Pixar’s first female director of a feature length film, not to mention that Brave featured the studio’s first female protagonist, a fiery Scottish archer-princess named Merida (Kelly Macdonald). But other than a brief comment to the Los Angeles Times in 2011 that the split was due to “creative differences,” Chapman has remained silent on the matter. Until now.

In an essay for a larger New York Times feature about women’s perpetual underrepresentation in all corners of Hollywood, Chapman wrote that the past year and a half had been “a heartbreakingly hard road” for her. “When Pixar took me off of Brave — a story that came from my heart, inspired by my relationship with my daughter — it was devastating,” she writes. 

While she still does not go into any specifics about why she was removed from the film, Chapman makes quite clear she did not agree with the decision. “Animation directors are not protected like live-action directors, who have the Directors Guild to go to battle for them,” she writes. “We are replaced on a regular basis — and that was a real issue for me. This was a story that I created, which came from a very personal place, as a woman and a mother. To have it taken away and given to someone else, and a man at that, was truly distressing on so many levels.”

Chapman does point out that ultimately her “vision” remained in the film, and that she remains “very proud of the movie.” But her last word on the matter (for now) would seem to suggest that after reportedly leaving Pixar to consult on an animation project for Lucasfilm, she’s not eager to return. “Sometimes women express an idea and are shot down, only to have a man express essentially the same idea and have it broadly embraced,” she writes. “Until there is a sufficient number of women executives in high places, this will continue to happen.”

When reached by EW, Pixar declined to comment.

The White House was busted last night for supporting the droning of US citizens without trial or even “clear evidence” of terror involvement.

Now they are publicly defending it, saying it’s “legal” and “ethical” and “wise”.
